Poetas, escritores y gestores culturales llegados al Congreso Mundial de Poetas por la Paz y la Vida en la Tierra, hemos abierto un espacio a la reflexión sobre la poesía y el imperativo de la acción ciudadana de los poetas ante los grandes problemas de nuestro tiempo. Una agenda global que pase revista a la poesía misma y a su articulación con la lucha por la libertad y la justicia de los pueblos en su derecho a existir frente a los poderes imperiales, la depredación ambiental y el peligro de una guerra inminente que asole la vida en la tierra y con ella la civilización y la naturaleza esplendorosa y diversa, que nos acuna como un milagro en el universo. 

Convencidos de que la poesía sirve para unir y convocar en una poderosa germinación de la bondad, la verdad y la belleza, en un acto de sembrar conciencia —como decía Fidel—, el conocimiento de nuestro mundo y sus problemas, la energía inderrotable de nuestros pueblos, valientes y generosos, lleva a la poesía a echarse al lado de los pobres, en la fundación de una nueva sensibilidad que nos conduzca a una revolución poética mundial, por un mejor destino para los hombres y mujeres de la tierra.

La poesía salva. A la luz de su árbol generoso florezca el reino de la vida y la libertad, por la que han luchado las mejores mentes y las más aceradas voluntades, en aras del triunfo definitivo del espíritu humano. Finalmente, consideramos moralmente inadmisible que los poderosos tengan al mundo en vilo, al borde de la guerra nuclear. Que ante los ojos impávidos del mundo intenten el exterminio de Palestina. Que el gobierno de Estados Unidos de Norteamérica no solo mantenga, sino que arrecie el bloqueo contra Cuba, que lucha por construir su destino. Que como dijera Nicanor Parra “No pedimos regalos ni limosnas, lo único que exigimos es que nos dejen trabajar en paz”. Llevemos la cultura, la lectura y la poesía a la gente que la necesita para saciar su sed de belleza, verdad y de esperanza. ¡Viva la unidad de los hombres y mujeres dignos de la Tierra! ¡Viva la Poesía! ¡Viva Palestina Libre! ¡Viva Cuba!

World Congress of Poets for Peace and Life on Earth. Final Declaration

Poets, writers and cultural managers who have come to the World Congress of Poets for Peace and Life on Earth have opened a space for reflection on poetry and the imperative of citizen action by poets in the face of the great problems of our time. A global agenda that reviews poetry itself and its articulation with the struggle for freedom and justice of peoples in their right to exist in the face of imperial powers, environmental depredation and the danger of an imminent war that will ravage life on Earth and with it civilization and the splendorous and diverse nature that cradles us like a miracle in the universe.

We are convinced that poetry serves to unite and convene in a powerful germination of goodness, truth and beauty, in an act of sowing awareness - as Fidel said, the knowledge of our world and its problems, the invincible energy of our people, brave and generous, leads poetry to stand by the poor, in the foundation of a new sensibility that leads us to a world poetic revolution, for a better destiny for the men and women of the earth.

Poetry saves. In the light of its generous tree may the kingdom of life and freedom flourish, for which the best minds and the strongest wills have fought, in the name of the definitive triumph of the human spirit. Finally, we consider it morally unacceptable that the powerful keep the world in suspense, on the brink of nuclear war. That before the impassive eyes of the world they attempt the extermination of Palestine. That the government of the United States of America not only maintains but intensifies the blockade against Cuba, which is fighting to build its destiny.  As Nicanor Parra said, “We do not ask for gifts or alms, the only thing we demand is that they let us work in peace.”
Let us bring culture, reading and poetry to the people who need it to quench their thirst for beauty, truth and hope. Long live the unity of the men and women worthy of the Earth! Long live Poetry! Long live Free Palestine! Long live Cuba!
